Tung Tung Tung Sahur (nicknamed "Triple T") is an AI-generated character: an anthropomorphic wooden log, based on a traditional Indonesian drum called a kentungan, wielding a wooden cudgel or bat. Though described as part of the Italian Brainrot wave, it is Indonesian in origin — and went on to become one of the single most famous "brainrot" characters on the internet, complete with a Fortnite skin.
Identity and appearance
Tung Tung Tung Sahur is a tall, cylindrical wooden figure with large staring eyes and feet, standing at a nighttime bus or train stop in its defining image. The object it holds — variously described as a baseball bat or a pentungan (a wooden club) — and its origins tie it to a real Ramadan tradition: the kentungan / bedug drum beaten in Indonesia to wake people for sahur, the pre-dawn meal eaten before fasting. The name itself is onomatopoeia: "tung tung tung" mimics the drum's knock, and "sahur" is the meal. (The word tung also means "rumbling" in Sundanese.)
Origin story
On February 28, 2025 — a day before Ramadan began in Indonesia — Indonesian TikTok creator Fernanda Bagas Indrastata (known online as Noxa, handle @noxaasht) asked the AI image generator DALL-E to draw a "pentungan sahur with a face and legs," then posted his favorite result. The upload was part of the Indonesian "Anomali AI character" trend, a cousin of (and partly inspired by) the Italian Brainrot genre. The accompanying eerie Indonesian voiceover described a "scary anomaly that only comes out at Sahur" and warned that if someone is called for sahur three times and doesn't answer, the creature comes to your house. The video went massively viral — over 42 million views and millions of likes.
The signature sound
The Indonesian narration is more horror-comedy than rhyme: a mock-folklore monster summoned by ignoring the call to eat. The voiceover ends by telling viewers to "share it with your friends who have trouble eating Sahur" — turning a scary cryptid into a public-service joke. The phrase "tung tung tung sahur" itself predates the meme by over a decade, having been used as a casual wake-up expression in Indonesia at least since 2013.
Why it's popular
Tung Tung Tung Sahur owes its popularity to a perfect collision of factors: a recognizable real cultural tradition (the Ramadan drum wake-up call), an eerie-but-silly design, and the viral "Anomali" AI trend. It was frequently powerscaled against Brr Brr Patapim in fan battles, and as Ramadan neared its end in late March 2025, Indonesian users humorously "sent off" the creature back to its home planet — a running joke that kept it in the news cycle.
